Join The 1701 Group. We Need Volunteers!

The 1701 Group is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that makes a difference in our community through 11 philanthropic programs that benefit students, seniors and veterans. Approximately 400 members volunteer over 50,000 hours every year. Yes, this is a strong working group of men and women!

What kinds of volunteers are needed? You’ll be amazed at where you might fit in. Some volunteer activities are obvious – we need people to work the front and back rooms in Thrift and Gift on Vassar, which helps fund our programs. But there are many other opportunities. We need help in our accounting department, food pantry, grant writers, marketing team, technology team, office, and Senior Sampler Gift Shop, to mention a few. We need volunteers throughout the year to help stuff Essentials kits, run our Clothes for Kids shopping events, help our veterans, and much more.

If you want to do something meaningful with your time, check out The 1701 Group. Make a difference in your community by sharing your enthusiasm and extending a helping hand while making new friendships that will last a lifetime.

Membership Levels and Requirements

There are two ways to join The 1701 Group:

  • If you are retired or working part time, we recommend full membership in The 1701 Group. You will need to attend an in-depth orientation that will give you a great overview of our programs. You shall also attend chapter meetings on the morning of the second Monday of each month (August through May) and have the privilege of voting, holding office and committee management roles. Voting members pay annual chapter dues of $35.
  • If you are working full-time or close to it, we offer evening meetings on the second Monday of each month (August through April). You can only vote at morning meetings but you’ll find the evening meetings to be very engaging and you can still participate in all activities and even chair committees. Annual chapter dues is $35.
