WE COULDN’T DO IT WITHOUT YOU…

INDIVIDUAL DONATIONS

We rely on the money donated by individuals throughout our community through our Clothes for Kids campaign every year. This money is used to support our Clothes for Kids program, which helps dress deserving students in the Washoe County School District.

GRANTS FROM CORPORATIONS & FOUNDATIONS

The 1701 Group’s Grants Committee writes grant applications to support our philanthropic programs.  Grants are especially helpful for funding our programs. We are grateful for the support we get from local foundations that help fund our programs. In fiscal 2023-2024, our grantors included Dermody Properties Foundation, E. L. Cord Foundation, Helen Close Foundation, Robert R. Banks Foundation, Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation, The Lee F. Delgrande Foundation, The Nell J. Redfield Foundation, and William N. Pennington Foundation.

HONOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY

Donations may be made to honor the memory of a loved one or celebrate significant events.  We will send a card to the person or family you have chosen to honor.  Gift amounts are not listed.

NON-CASH DONATIONS

We also accept donations of goods or services.  Please provide a fair market value assessment of your contribution.

For questions regarding the different methods of contribution, please contact The 1701 Group’s Treasurer or call 775-329-1584.

Due to Charitable Solicitation Registration requirements, The 1701 Group is only able to accept out-of-state donations from these states:  AK, CA, DE, ID, IN, MD, MT, NE, SD, TX, VT, WY.

Contributing to the general fund is a great way to help. It allows The 1701 Group to distribute funds to an area or at a certain time of year as needed. If you prefer to contribute to a particular program, you can indicate the program by sending our Treasurer an email at TreasurerALRS@yahoo.com. Our gratitude goes out to all contributions and donations!

Contributions can be made by cash, check, PayPal, or credit card.

Here’s a convenient form you can use if you are mailing in a donation.

The 1701 Group is a 501(c)(3) corporation. Your donation is tax-deductible. The tax ID number is # 88-0139673. We mail donation receipts to donors for monetary contributions. Donation receipts are available at the Thrift Shop for merchandise donations at the time of donation.

Thrift and Gift on Vassar

The 1701 Group’s most important fundraiser is Thrift and Gift on Vassar. The proceeds from Thrift and Gift on Vassar at 1701 Vassar Street, Reno, serve to offset operational costs and are directed toward our philanthropic programs.

Donate your gently used items. Instead of doing the work of having a yard sale, drop off your items and receive your tax-deductible form. Check our Thrift and Gift on Vassar page for donation guidelines and hours.

Shop in Thrift and Gift on Vassar. It is clean and has great items that are priced to sell. In 2025, it was voted the #1 thrift/consignment store in Reno.

Finally, pass our name on. Let your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors know where we are and how great Thrift and Gift on Vassar really is.

Become a member and feel the love. Giving through contributions, shopping or donating is wonderful, but giving through membership is priceless. Friendship and support, using and learning skills, and personal investment to make the organization and programs run are just a few of the benefits.

Support The 1701 Group by purchasing a “12 Months of Flowers Subscription Card.” You get a year of premium bouquets white supporting our programs for students, seniors and veterans.

These Flower Subscription Cards cost $50 and are available on the Sparks Florist Website. $15 from each card sold supports our 11 philanthropic programs. You purchase the card online and can pick it up at any of the three Sparks Florist locations or it will be mailed to you. Then take your card to a Sparks Florist location once a month for 12 consecutive months to redeem your bouquet.

The 1701 Group’s Food Pantry needs your double-handled paper grocery bags. They use approximately 1,500 bags a month to deliver food to senior citizens in the Reno-Sparks community. That’s a lot of bags!

The Clothes For Kids Campaign is our annual fundraiser directly benefiting our Clothes for Kids shopping events. We clothe over 3,000 WCSD students each year at local Target and Walmart stores.

You can give a cash donation to the Senior Sampler philanthropic program but don’t miss the chance to shop in the Senior Sampler Gift Shop, located inside Thrift and Gift on Vassar. The talented senior crafters have created a wonderful variety of items. It won’t be hard to find items for yourself and for gifts. The best part, 100% of the proceeds are returned to the senior crafter.

So, shop in the Gift Shop and don’t forget to pass our name on. Let your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors know where we are and how great the Senior Sampler Gift Shop is.
