Re-Share

In response to excess items, and items that are not sold in the Thrift and Gift on Vassar, Re-Share was created. The program emphasizes collaboration with other local nonprofit organizations by reallocating certain items received to more appropriate organizations in an ongoing, one time or short term basis.  In total, we work with eight different Re-Share partners.

With the help of many backroom staffers sorting through donations for Re-Share, the committee has passed along donated items to eight other nonprofits.  Items “recycled” through Re-Share include:

  • Care Chest – crutches, walkers, canes, transfer chairs, hand rails, nutritional drinks, and unopened non-perishable medical supplies such as: incontinence protection, bandages, cleansers, and diabetic testing supplies.
  • Gospel Mission – household items and clothing.
  • Habitat for Humanity – home repair items, faucets, curtain rods.
  • Lions Club – glasses
  • Northern Nevada Humane Society – bath towels and fleece throws.
  • Renown Cancer Center – wigs, scarves, hats, beanies, small cozy blankets, and activity books and crafts for patients to use during treatment.
  • Step 2 – children’s clothes size newborn to 16-18 and twin, full or queen comforters.
  • Women & Children’s Center of the Sierras – breast pumps, diapers, strollers.
