Re-Share

In response to excess items, and items that are not sold in the Thrift and Gift on Vassar, Re-Share was created. The program emphasizes collaboration with other local nonprofit organizations by reallocating certain items received to more appropriate organizations in an ongoing, one time or short term basis. For example, we donate school supplies to the Education Alliance’s Teachers’ Warehouse, prescription glasses to the Lions Club, some of our donations to Gospel Mission, and more. Almost all of the excess damaged or dirty clothing is recycled. In total, we work with 11 different Re-Share partners.

With the help of many backroom staffers sorting through donations for Re-Share, the committee has passed along donated items to eleven other nonprofits.  Items “recycled” through Re-Share include computers, printers, canes, walkers, medical supplies, books, clothing, household goods, construction supplies, prescription eyeglasses, school supplies, and arts and crafts supplies.  We are now partnering with a program at Renown Regional Medical Center, providing donated wigs for patients going through chemotherapy.
