Food Pantry began in 1980 to provide food at Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays for senior citizens in Washoe County, identified to be “in need” due to financial or physical reasons. Since then it has expanded to serve an ever increasing number of seniors that need extra support.
Today our Food Pantry supports over 300 seniors, including approximately 50 monthly deliveries to home-bound individuals and 50 people at the Indian Colony. Monthly, seniors are able to pick up their two bags of groceries at the Washoe County Senior Center on 9th Street. Essential supplies, such as shampoo and toilet paper, are often included.
Community members are referred from the Washoe County Senior Services, Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, Elder Abuse Program of Washoe County and the State of Nevada.
